Cori’s Story:

Cori began her career training marine mammals before becoming a dog trainer. Her story started back in 2010 as a volunteer at Mystic Aquarium, in Connecticut, assisting with the care and training of sea lions and seals. It was there that she caught the “training bug.” She soaked up every bit of information she could- reading training books, observing and assisting with training sessions, debriefing with the trainers after training sessions and of course, getting out onto the exhibits to feed the animals herself.

From there, she went on to do an animal training internship at the Aquarium of Niagara, before moving to Hawaii where she attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa, earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology and completing an internship at Sea Life Park. In the summer of 2013, she achieved her dream of becoming a marine mammal trainer at Sea Life Park, working with dolphins, sea lions, seals and penguins. Cori has also worked at Dolphin Quest on the Big Island as well as the Waikiki Aquarium, with endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals.

In 2018, she was ready for her next adventure and started her dog training business (then named Pals Unlimited Dog Training). She was ready to take all she learned working with marine mammals and implement it into helping dog owners achieve their training goals. She’s always considered herself an animal person, however, she quickly developed a new passion- teaching the humans. She loves sharing her passion and helping people train, communicate and care for their dogs!

In 2021, she decided it was time to head home to Connecticut and along with her husband, 2 dogs and 2 rabbits, she moved her business to New England.

Though she has learned many things and her training techniques have developed over the years, she is committed to never changing one thing that she learned early on- to focus on positive reinforcement training methods. She is committed to teaching and training in a way that is beneficial for all parties and does not evoke fear, stress, pain or anxiety. She never uses shock/e-collars, prong collars, choke collars or any other aversive training tool. She learned over a decade ago how to effectively train without them and is committed to providing ethical training for all.

Aloha

At Lasata Dog Training, we embrace the true meaning of the “aloha spirit.” Aloha is more than a greeting or a type of shirt you wear on a Hawaiian vacation. The word “aloha” carries the weight of what it means to be kind, considerate and empathetic to all beings. Aloha is to be welcoming, inclusive and generous to others. To be understanding and appreciative, but above all, aloha means that you always come from a place of love in everything you do.

We live aloha by striving to embody aloha everyday, both professionally and personally. By living with gratitude, generosity, passion, integrity and humility.

We show aloha by treating everyone with respect, inclusivity and empathy.

We train aloha by teaching humanely, considering the feelings, needs and well-being of all students, human or dog, and striving to do what’s in the best interest of all parties.
